Studio

In the studio, each gesture inaugurates a new universe of possibilities. Between strokes and silences, there is an unavoidable moment: the instant of printing.

Process and behind the scenes

The production of the images begins with the evaluation of the weather: moments of Sizígia, the occurrence of low tide, meteorological conditions, air humidity, light and atmospheric visibility. Through flights with helicopter, the first stage of the photographs is collected. This moment of suspension is also a moment of immersion, which makes the studio the stage of assessment, clipping and assembly of the landscapes that are built from the investigated landscapes. Purifying, reassembling, extracting excesses, amplifying textures, correcting colors, highlighting lines and shapes are some of the strategies of composition adopted until the final images.

Then comes the paper. Paper is not neutral: this substrate transforms the photograph. There is also a technical challenge, correctly calibrating colors and preserving the tonal subtleties that compose my visual poetics. Printing is not merely a finishing act: it is the consolidation of a dimension. All photographs are printed, inspected, dated and signed by me.

Today, I finalized the printing of one of my works from the “Sizígia” series, in large format, at Estúdio Lukas Cravo (@estudiolukascravo). The experience reinforces the importance of working with professionals and materials that share the same rigor I apply to my research.

Lukas Cravo’s guidance was decisive in the choice of substrate. We opted for Canson® Infinity Somerset Enhanced Velvet, a 100% cotton paper whose texture and chromatic neutrality aligned perfectly with the objectives of this work. Printing at a Canson® Certified Print Lab is the guarantee of an archival standard and absolute fidelity to the digital image.

As a Canson® Ambassador, my role is also to identify and value the spaces that elevate the standard of art printing in Brazil. Lukas’s studio is not just a place of production, but a center for learning and knowledge exchange.

I leave here my recommendation to all artists and photographers who take the materialization of their work seriously: visit this space. The quality of the technical dialogue and the final result speak for themselves.
